Isn't it lovely? Its a KTM 640 adventure. Most people won't have heard of them but KTM are an Austrian firm who have a strong reputation in the motorbike world. Its a 625cc single cylinder road/trail bike with a huge petrol tank and lots of vibb-rrrr-ration. Sounds good though, and it goes like stink! Its very rugged and you can actually hear the suspension laughing at the bumps. KTM stands for Kronreif Trunkenpolz Mattighoffen by the way, but that doesn't bother me. I learned to drive in an FSO which stands for Fabryka Samochodow Osobowych.
Modifications include Hepco & Becker luggage, a Cat 1 alarm (so don't even think about it), high front fender, headlight guard - ya gotta have a headlight guard, fork gaitors, crash bars, heated grips, sidestand and a tankbag. Its a tall bike. You sit high up, master of all you survey. -Well not quite; but you can see over cars and hedges as you sit up straight. The vibration makes your arse go numb after about 200 miles, but its an excuse to pull over and stretch your legs.
The bike was purchased from Robinsons of Rochdale who I have to say I am pretty satisfied with. Although it seems they are more into motocross and road bikes I think they are selling more of this type of thing, and so were fairly intrigued at some of the bits I asked them to fit. When I bought the bike I was dreading the pushy salesmen, but the staff are good and the purchase was a relaxed affair. If buying from them again I'd keep a close eye on what parts / work they are supplying and when, because I ended up having to go back a few times but other than that they were OK really. I'll let you know how their aftersales service holds up to shipping parts to Africa!
